We had a short outage of the message boards recently. This was due to some issues I had with trying to change settings to prevent spammers from signing up for the message board. Somewhere along the way, things got totally borked and I had to do a complete re-install. Things should be working and stable now. Those of you who already had accounts will have to re-register.

PLEASE NOTE: from now on to register for an account with the photo gallery or for the message board, you'll need to drop me a quick e-mail just to let me know you are a real human disc golfer before you are able to post. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but after only a short time the message board was already getting several spam messages daily.

Also, I just wanted to remind everyone that this Saturday at 9:30 am, we will be having our Club Kick-Off event for this season at Ross Hills Park. We will have Am and Pro divisions including Intermediate and Advanced Am. Am and Pro will cost $15.00, and Intermediate will run $10.00. $5.00 of each entry fee pays for your full year membership with the Wabash Disc Golf Club. The rest will be used for payouts. We will be paying out CA$H for all divisions (so no bagging, play in your proper division *LOL*) Also, we will have food and discs available for sale at the event.

Finally, for those of you who won't be making it to the Club Kick-Off, please consider sending in your membership form soon! We are trying to plan a full season of events for the area, including park improvements and club events. All membership fees and other fundraising activities will go towards improving and expanding disc golf in our area.

Also, if you have ideas on how to improve disc golf in our area, please use the message board or talk to Jeremy, Mike or Steve in person. We would really like an idea as to who is willing to pitch in and help with events, course maintenance and improvement days, and so on. If you have a set of skills, contacts within local government (specifically the parks departments) and/or media, or just some time to help out, please let us know!

The tournament schedule now has club events listed for the next few months. In march, we will be having the Club Kick-Off. This event will mark the beginning of the WDGC season and will begin our membership drive. See the tournament schedule for more details.

Next will be the First Annual Boy Scout Open. This will be the first PDGA sanctioned (C-Tier) event at the new Eagle Scout DGC at Camp Collum. Amateurs will play on Saturday and Pros will play on Sunday. This is going to be the club's biggest annual event, so please register early! For more info, see the tournament schedule.

Then in May, we will have Memorial Day Doubles. And in June, we are going to be doing Firefly Glow Golf at Ross Hills! We hope to have at least one special event every calendar month all summer long, so for all of the information on these and other events, be sure to check in on the tournament schedule regularly!

We are also beginning to make plans for starting up the weekly leagues. Be sure to check the league schedule for more details.

We have officially begun this year's membership drive! Be sure to sign up ASAP. Membership helps grow the sport locally and gives members nice benefits. See the membership page for more details. Note, however, that if you are playing the Club Kick-Off event, then your membership dues are included in your tournament registration!

The web site now has a message board and a photo gallery. Be sure to sign up and have a look around! I will continue to update and expand the new web site as we go on through Spring and into Summer.

February 8, 2010

The 1st Annual Wabash Ice Bowl was a big success! Our goal was to raise $400.00 and 40 cans of food for the Food Finders Food Bank. Instead, we managed to raise $500.00 and over 50 cans of food! Well done, WDGC. We will be making a formal visit to turn in the funds and food sometime this week and will hopefully have a photo to post after then.

Not only did we manage to help feed families in need, we also were able to generate some very positive PR. The Journal & Courier ran a story on us in the Sunday, January 31st edition! We were on the front page of the local section. In case you didn't see the story, here is a link to an online version. There is also a photo gallery on the JC web site which you can see here. Also, here are some stats (for those of you who enjoy such things):

  • Am division winner: Jerry J. (51)
  • Pro Division winner: Jeremy J. (50)
  • Most Mulligans purchased by a single player: Jeremy J. buying 18
  • Total Mulligans sold: 84
  • Total players: 14
  • Winner of CTP on hole 2: Jeremy J.
  • Winner of CTP on hole 18: Mike L.
  • Special thanks to Clay Finney and the Lafayette Parks Dept for the donation of two season passes to the Local Swimming facitilities.
  • Also, big thanks to my wife, Dr. Kazumi Chino, for the donation of all the merchandise and food for this event.
  • Thanks also to Jeremy J and Mike L for helping arrange and organize this event.

I should make a brief apology to everyone who was expecting this Ice Bowl update earlier. I have been very sick the last week and I am still on the mend.

Also, I should note that I still have a small selection of Ice Bowl merchandise available for sale. I will gladly provide a list of what is available to anyone who asks. Drop me an email for a copy of the list. chickenpuppet AT msn DOT com. I have a couple of long sleeve tees and several discs.

Finally, progress has been slow on working on this new site, but I should have a fully functional version up and ready before the spring reopening of the local courses. I will note all updates and additions here as I make progress.
